Successful Completion of the Freshers Orientation Program Spring 2024

the Green University English Club (GUEC) in collaboration with the Department of English organized the Freshers Orientation Program for the Spring 2024 semester on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM. This program was arranged to welcome the newly admitted students of the department.

The program was initiated with the welcome speech of Dr. Serajum Munira, Associate Professor, Dept. Of English & Director of Center for Language and Cultural Studies (CLCS), GUB. After that, the departmental documentary was exhibited for the freshers. The newly admitted students introduced themselves and one of them shared why she has chosen the department and also what she expects from the department. 

Afterward, all the faculty members from the department and the CLCS introduced themselves and congratulated the freshers for joining the flagship department of the Green University of Bangladesh. Further details regarding the department were presented through Powerpoints by the Club Moderator, M. Ashiqur Rahman Sourav, Lecturer, Department of English.

The event was graced by the presence of our special guest honorable Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Distinguished Professor, Green Business School, GUB. He encouraged the freshers to know themselves and their strengths and weaknesses for being an asset to this University as well as the country. Our Session Chair of the event honorable Prof. Dr. M. Shahidullah, Dean (Acting), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Chairperson, Department of English shared his thoughtful insights and congratulated the students for making the right decision to join the Department of English. He emphasized on rapport building to get the utmost support from the department. Also, he added that English is considered a royal subject and the demand for English is rising day by day. Hence, they have lots of opportunities to explore different fields in the job market in the future. 

Respectively, representatives from the existing batches, English Club and Mentors shared their experiences in this department. Moreover, they inspired the Freshers to take part in several activities of the department and develop their extracurricular competence along with academic excellence. Later, Mr. Md. Zohorul Islam, Lecturer and Program Coordinator of the Department of English, discussed several academic concerns and inquiries that the freshers may have at the beginning of the semester and made these very clear to them. He emphasized on noticing the departmental notice boards every day to get important notices from there. 

The event became complete with the presence of our chief guest honorable Prof. Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor (Acting), GUB. He made concluding remarks by congratulating and thanking the freshers for making the right decision to choose the Green University of Bangladesh. Out of his years of experience and excellence, he advised the Freshers to utilize every moment of life. 

Finally, the event closed with thanks to every person who made this event successful.
