We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the "Career Talk from the Other Side of the Table" event held on May 24, 2024, at the Green University of Bangladesh. Organized by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the BASIS Students' Forum GUB Chapter, this event was an insightful and enriching experience for all attendees.
The event commenced with our esteemed guests' warm and engaging introduction, setting a positive tone for the proceedings.
Our Guest of Honor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, Distinguished Professor at BRAC University, emphasized the importance of learning for the sake of acquiring knowledge. He highlighted the significant advantage of an early start in one's professional life, noting that BCS cadres begin their careers at around 35, while fresh graduates typically start at 25.
The Keynote speaker, Mr. Ajmat Iqbal, Director of Reve Group, provided a humorous and insightful overview of his experiences at BUET, sharing life stories that underscored the necessity of proving one's worth to interviewers, regardless of inherent qualities. He offered valuable, step-by-step guidelines for interview preparation, which included:
Mr. Iqbal also shared key areas that recruiters focus on, such as advanced degrees and professional courses, paper publications, competitive programming experience, and extracurricular activities. During the Q&A session, he advised students on how to present themselves to organizations and the future of machine learning. He emphasized preparing according to the specific organization they are targeting, focusing on certificate-based courses, and developing core knowledge over merely using machine learning tools.
Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of GUB, shared insights on the importance of time management, fundamental learning, and unique contributions to research in developing a student’s career.
Our Guest of Honor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, also shared his wisdom and concluded his session by engaging the students with some thought-provoking math riddles.
Special Guest, Prof. Dr. Md. Saiful Azad, Dean of FSE and Director of IQAC, emphasized building a career focused on core research.
The Honorable Chairperson of the Department of CSE, Dr. Muhammad Aminur Rahaman, emphasized the importance of strengthening fundamental skills and dedicating effort to improving specific sectoral skills.
